What Are the Youth Councils?

The Youth Councils are a group of young leaders geographically distributed across the Gaza Strip. This structured body is made up of Palestinian youth with leadership and entrepreneurial qualities who believe in the ability of young people to create positive change in their communities. At the top of this structure is the General Assembly of the Youth Councils.

It branches into five Youth Councils representing the five governorates. Each governorate council includes a number of local area councils, with a total of 55 primary area councils across the Gaza Strip. Each council has an average of 25 young members. The Youth Councils were officially launched in 2015 after years of developing the original concept. They gradually established a strong presence across the Gaza Strip after progressing through several stages: establishment, learning, expansion, and experience. Accordingly, the councils have an administrative structure that organizes and facilitates their work in a way that suits this widespread youth network. The councils carry out many diverse activities aimed primarily at contributing positively to the development of Palestinian society.

Youth Councils Mission

The Youth Councils seek to organize young people and unite their efforts so they can create positive change within their communities. They also work to provide suitable mechanisms that empower youth to achieve their goals within a safe and supportive environment guaranteed by law, based on the belief that young people are best positioned to lead change.
